My Quilt top is home!!

 I don't know if you remember seeing a few posts regarding this quilt top, but it is finally home! This group was a round robin, well more of a "Bee Free Bee's" round robin. We had complete creative liberty to add what we wanted to for each round that came our way. This is what arrived in my mail box today!!! I love it! 

Originally I wanted to make it a baby quilt, cause I was thinking I would get a girl this time, but since I am having my fourth (and last) boy, I am going to quilt it and display in my studio! Isn't it so cheerful and divine? It is just so fresh I love staring at it! Each round has a unique touch to it and it has made this all the more fun.

When the signups came up again, I had to, sadly, turn the next round down because I will be having my baby right when we start, and I didn't think that would be fair to make someone wait right off the bat for their top. I didn't want to delay anything. So, I am going to do round 3 for sure! It's a the Flickr group Around the Bend and Across the Pond !! I highly recommend joining and doing this because you not only get a fabulous quilt, but you will make life long friends too!

I'm going to add a border around this and then quilt it up. Since I've been taking Angela Walters Free Motion quilting class online, I am going to use some of those techniques to fill it in.....can't wait to show you! Stay tuned for this finished project.

My addition for Jo!!

As you may remember I participated in a Round Robin and I wanted to show you what I did in June (actually July, cause I was so sick in June) for Jo Avery. This is my favorite type of round robin so far I think. With this one I wanted to add some disappearing nine patch squares but rather than grouping them together I spread them out along the border. 

The top is a bit wavy, but I think that is just from having so many hands on it. I tried to stick with the colors that were already in it and I hope I did it justice. 

Here is the corner up close, I tried to make it look as though it flowed through...

Each nine patch was placed in the white section from the border before mine.

My addition for Pam!

So I have completed my round for the Round Robin over at the Flickr group Around the Bend and Across the Pond! This is for Pam and I wish I could keep it! Isn't it cool? I added the chevrons. The only request from her was to keep with the same colors.....DONE! 

I just need to trim the edges so they are straight with the corner squares....what do you think?

Around the Bend and Across the Pond...

These past 4 days I have been sewing like a maniac! Why? Well, because I waited till this week to finally decide what I wanted to do for this round. I love how this turned out and I wish I could keep it for sure! I decided that stars would be a fabulous addition to this piece....what do you think? So, I started off making stars and once I counted how many I was going to need I was a little overwhelmed at first because I was going to need to make 28 6.5" stars to circle the entire outside. *sigh* But I wanted to do it.... so I started with my stacks....

Here is the final piece....I did not like the green I had for the border, so I'm leaving that up to Greta to do a border if she chooses....

The photo just doesn't do it justice, but I'm in love with this top. I can't wait to see what else is done with it because it has 5 more rounds of additions.....

Sunday Musings and Sewings...

Today was a pretty great day! And, it's not over but I had to hurry and post what I've been doing today and will continue to do once I finish this post. I added my part to the Round Robin for this piece, what do you think?

Please don't mind my mess in the upper corner.....I have neglected my space and not put things away this week.

Next what I've been doing is quilting a rather large quilt these past two weeks. The stitching was an edge to edge but was very tight. It turned out gorgeous don't you think? Looking at it, I really want to try this pattern for another quilt. The large solid blocks are 12.5" and that allows you to really show off any beautiful fabrics....

This sweet lady really knows how to use her scraps! This is the back of the quilt and I think making little nine patch blocks and putting them together is sheer genius! Lots of work, but it's perfect for a scrappy quilt...don't ya think??

What I've been up to Part1

My dear readers!! I have been MIA for 2 weeks now and I am so sorry!! These past two weeks have been so very busy that I don't even know where to start.  I did, however, finish the quilt for the sweet little girl...here is the binding!! Isn't it precious??! 

Next I have finally finished my other set of dresdens that we were doing over at ORBC a while back. I am getting ready to quilt this badboy! As soon as I finish the one for my client that is on my longarm right now. Wait till you see it.....

Almost Wordless Wednesdays

Today has been loaded down with quilting, quilting...and can I say more quilting! I have my third quilt loaded today and am in the process of quilting it right now. I love a productive day. SO, here are some pictures of what I did and am doing today!

Round Robins and such.....

I must tell you that I am super excited for the two Round Robin groups I'm doing this year! You can join too HERE! Anyone is welcome and we will have several ongoing.....come join us.

Anyway, I wanted to give you a sneak peek of what I'm considering for the two I have in my hands at the moment.....tell me what you think of the fabric choices...

To start off this is the starter block for the first one....isn't it smashing?

 

Here is some of the fabric I pulled from my stash to add to this starter block. I know the colors are gray and yellow, but we can add what we think would compliment it.....

Now the next one is from my "free-form" group. These handbags are just CUTE!!! And Jenny said that they would be hanging on the wall in her girls room.....oh the possibilities!

 

So, I pulled some girlie fabrics out and this is what I was thinking....since it's kind of scrappy and all. I may add or take away, I'm just sayin....it's kind of a secret too! 

I love the big bold fabrics....what do you think?

I am making progress, I just pulled these out tonight and will get started this weekend......

Some Sewing Therapy

This has been a tough week around our house and I was desperate to get some sewing in to distract myself. So, the Holiday is over all the kids are at school, I am STILL in my Pajamas and I have completed both my starter blocks/centers for the Round Robin Groups I just joined over at

Around the Bend and Across the Pond. 

This is the center/starting point for the group Awesome Rawsome Round Robin Group! What do you think? It's 31" x 31" and comes in just under our max of 36" sq.

This is my signature block that will be accompanying my center in the mail so that each lovely person that adds to my center will be able to sign it.

I have been holding on to these fabrics for over a year now wondering what to do with them. I just love how happy they are and looking at them makes me happy!

Now, time to clean up my mess on the table here and get on with my day.

I Love Memory Quilts

It has been kind of crazy and busy around our house this past week. I had a quilt brought to me that was made by a customer for her mother in law. This quilt was made from the shirts of her deceased father in law. I think this is an awesome way to remember someone special that has passed on. I think this pattern is really stunning and with all the different fabrics. I was honored to quilt this for her and she choose a wave pattern because he lived by the ocean and always swam. Love this pattern....check it out.

Next up was a quilt I made, with the help of my fabulous bee sisters! Wonky stars!! I added a green border around it and quilted it with some simple large flowers. I didn't want to do anything too distracting from the stars! I love the white and it makes it so simple and clean. This quilt, originally, was supposed to be a gift for someone, but I really want to keep it for myself.

 

 Here is a sneak peek of the quilting up close. I haven't bound it yet because I am not sure which fabric I want for the binding. I may have to go shopping for some......for the back, I used a vintage sheet I bought at Savers. I know that sheets aren't really the norm for quilts, but it just seemed to fit!

All quilted and ready to bind!

I finished my owl quilt today....with the acception of the binding. I quilted this cute thing on my longarm and chose a water lily design. I'm keeping to my process pledge, so the binding isn't complete, but that will be done this week. This is one of the quilts I had help with from my bee sisters! Isn't it CUTE?

I love Lily's....and this is a really pretty pattern I think.

My next projects....

I have some really awesome friends that give me their boys clothes when they out grow them! I'm all about re-using if you can! This lovely stack here doesn't appeal to my boys, HOWEVER....it totally appeals to me. Don't you think these wonderful plaids would look fabulous with some solid white Kona fabric in a scrappy quilt? I think this is going to be fun! So, from this stack of shorts and shirts, I think a wonderful upcycled quilt is going to emerge......

Next, I have this cute throw that my bee sisters helped me make. I won this fabric a while back from Dena and I had this vision of owls in the center from the beginning. It's all pinned and ready to quilt. Isn't it cute?

day eight through fourteen projects

sad to say, but i had to really study for Biology during the week for projects eight through 13 i accomplished nothing noteworthy.  i did crochet a hat while listening to my Political Science lectures online, but that will be for another day.

now, day 14 is today! i just finished a bee block that was due in December...i am a slacker! i should have finished it before school started, but i was too caught up in all the other things i wanted to do. but, i finially finished it and will be sending it tomorrow. what do you think?

all i want to do is sew...

i'm trying to get in the mood, for the fourth time today, to read through my biology lessons. ugh. i tell you, there is a reason i am into english, writing and art. 

anyhow, i am starting today with two new challenges.  this is my first day of the dottie angel challenge, where i pledge to only buy handmade or thrifted items for my house and my closet.  i did have a spectacular find today at a local thrift store....

these were new and still in the box....the best part of it all was it only cost me .99 cents!  now....i'm in search for another set or two...time to change out the old dishes and get something new and fresh, with smaller portion sizes. i love that these bowls and plates are smaller so we won't fill up the plates to capacity each time and over eat.

the next challenge is a craft a day in february.  i decided to do this because i have my dqs10 quilt to finish up, my last two bees that are being neglected tremendously, my old red barn quilt along 9, my urban home goods swap, a quilt that needs to be quilted and three others that need assembling and finishing off. and to top it off, i need to finish assembling my tutorial quilt. **phew** just makes me tired thinking about it.
