A Day of Service

Our Church leaders asked us as a people to give a day of service in each of our communities. So our local leaders set a day and it was last Saturday October 22. There were over 1600 local members plus several other Churchs and we all as a community got together to clean up our city. Not only did we beautify our community but we as an entire group of people saved the City over $60,000 in labor costs. We cleaned up all the empty lots of trash, debris, and weeds. It was really fun and very satisfying.

Charity Quilting = Fun Quilting

We started today! Four of us got together today to cut, sew and assemble.....and talk and laugh and eat too! We had so much fun assembling these blocks and quilt tops! There is still so much work to do, but I am so glad it wasn't a one woman show! We made mostly 9 patch blocks because we had so many random fabrics donated, so we thought that scrappy would be fun! And it really turned out great.

I asked Alicia to stand next to it so you could get an idea of how big the quilts need to be. This one measures 70" x 90" and it is so fun! We tried to be random and didn't like it so we made a diamond in the middle...isn't it cool? My favorite part of this picture are the cute little feet behind the quilt top!

I didn't include myself in any pictures because .... well, a ponytail and no makeup with sewing all day..... not a pretty site. Anyway, hope you enjoy this first post of where the fabric is going!

Okay, so remember this giveaway I mentioned a few days back? Well.....I WON!! I am so shocked! But the coolest part of the whole thing was I instantly thought of the Quilting for Charity group I have and the quilts we're getting assembled this week and quilting and tying them next week. This is such a blessing, because I have already had so much fabric and blocks donated that we are busy cutting them now.  I will be posting pictures of the process and the group of fabulous ladies that get together for the quilting. This is something that just makes my heart warm.....charity is the pure love of Christ and I love seeing so many people being charitable. quilts for Japan

i have come across some of the MOST generous and kind people online. i believe that we are all drawn to each other because of similar desires and goals in life. after the terrible events that happened in Japan, i have seen numerous groups and blogs working tirelessly to make quilts for Japan. i received this lovely and generous box of fabric and blocks from Dolores and it is only the beginning. i have added a bunch of my own fabric for backing and a block or two that i had just sitting around. i have pledged to share the process too so here we are gathering fabric to be put together. what a wonderful way to help the people of Japan. if you would like to help too you can send fabric, backing, or blocks so that we can get these quilts assembled. go HERE to my flickr group and join in the fun! can't wait to show you more!

quilting for charity

i am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  and we have a women's organization that is fantastic.  the Relief Society is working to assemble kits for people all over the world in need. at this time, there is a great need for quilts and they will be sent to Japan at this time. i have started a flickr group just for this because i know so many fabulous quilters i thought it would be awesome to enlist the help of all of you fantastically talented people out there. right now, the group i started is only asking for blocks, but you can make as many as you want or full sized quilts as well. the need at this time is:

Quilts
Un-used fabric, preferably  cotton blends or flannel. High-loft bonded batting is preferred. Quilts may be quilted or tied with yarn ties four inches apart. Please ensure that yarn ties will not pull out.  *Do not use fabrics with prints of religious or military themes or flags.

Sizes:
Crib        45"x 60"
Single     72" x90"
Double    90"x90"
