ARRR8 Round Robin Complete! (Except the binding)

So I finally finished my ARRR8 quilt from Around the Bend and Across the Pond group on Flickr this week. I am going to machine bind this one since it is so massive and I want it on my bed now!  I think it turned ou amazing!

Love how it looks quilted. I like it even more now!

Paisleys!!

My friend Cassie asked me to quilt paisleys on her quilt for her. I was nervous at first because I hadn't done them yet and I was stalling.....until she texted me and said the baby that this was for came 2 weeks early!! Now the pressure was on!! So, I practiced on some fabric and went to town! 

I think it turned out really awesome! I hope you like it Cassie!! (she drops in my blog from time to time) :)

Baby quilt with granny squares!!

I am in love with this pattern. I made this for a friend of mine and gave it to her at her baby shower this weekend. She loved it! (thank goodness) But I want to make one of these for our bed......I have the squares all cut out and ready to go....now, if I can only find the time to do it.

Isn't is just so Fresh?!

I chose a pattern of a sleeping bear with stars to quilt it and I think it turned out so cute!

I love dots and stripes for the binding on any quilt.....

The binding and the back is from the Barenstein Bears Collection.....too cute!!

One memory quilt finished....

But let me start from the beginning.....my grandpa past away in December and after living 91 years on this earth, he had accumulated a LOT of stuff.....I took a ton of his shirts and pants so that I could make quilts for some family members......I cut 9.5" squares from each shirt as you see here:

Next I took a shirt he had that was white and red checked and cut up 2.5" squares (this shirt reminded me of his table cloth that he ALWAYS had on his table for as long as I can remember) And the white squares are a pair of painters pants. (he was a painter)

 

For the sashing I used his jeans....this looks awesome but is WAY hard to keep it flat when quilting....but it's SO grandpa!

Before I get to the quilting of this first one, I have to tell you that all the cutting above and ironing on of the interfacing took a LONG time! And, since my grandpa smoked since he was 12, my iron is kind of ruined from the tar....but, it was a good cause....right?

This photo I'm about to show you is pretty cool I think. I just did a basic stipple because I had to make sure the puckers weren't too bad. This picture is awesome though, because if you look at the solid blue square you'll see paint....this was from a sweatshirt he used to wear while working.....cool huh?

Here it is finished...almost, just need to sew on the binding.

Here is the front of this quilt. This one is for my cousin who took care of my grandpa the last 12 years because he was the only one that lived in the same town. Something special for one of my favorite cousins! :)

I have a few more to make, but they will come along slowly because I really wanted to finish this one for my cousin. What do you think?

Sunday Musings and Sewings...

Today was a pretty great day! And, it's not over but I had to hurry and post what I've been doing today and will continue to do once I finish this post. I added my part to the Round Robin for this piece, what do you think?

Please don't mind my mess in the upper corner.....I have neglected my space and not put things away this week.

Next what I've been doing is quilting a rather large quilt these past two weeks. The stitching was an edge to edge but was very tight. It turned out gorgeous don't you think? Looking at it, I really want to try this pattern for another quilt. The large solid blocks are 12.5" and that allows you to really show off any beautiful fabrics....

This sweet lady really knows how to use her scraps! This is the back of the quilt and I think making little nine patch blocks and putting them together is sheer genius! Lots of work, but it's perfect for a scrappy quilt...don't ya think??

What I've been up to Part1

My dear readers!! I have been MIA for 2 weeks now and I am so sorry!! These past two weeks have been so very busy that I don't even know where to start.  I did, however, finish the quilt for the sweet little girl...here is the binding!! Isn't it precious??! 

Next I have finally finished my other set of dresdens that we were doing over at ORBC a while back. I am getting ready to quilt this badboy! As soon as I finish the one for my client that is on my longarm right now. Wait till you see it.....

Almost Wordless Wednesdays

Today has been loaded down with quilting, quilting...and can I say more quilting! I have my third quilt loaded today and am in the process of quilting it right now. I love a productive day. SO, here are some pictures of what I did and am doing today!

Fabulous Paper Piecing!

 I just finished the second amazing quilt! Isn't this stunning with all the colors? I loved the green one but this one is very striking! She picked a multi-colored thread and it really looks fabulous! 

 

This is the back! Talk about a way to use up your scraps! I think this is a brilliant idea and I'm going to try this one on a quilt I'm starting up with a round robin group I'm doing.

I love the resourcefulness of the back....what a way to use up extras.....

New Year Projects

It's been crazy around here with the Holidays wrapping up! I had the opportunity to quilt a gorgeous quilt for a customer and it was fabulous! She actually did two of them and I'm getting ready to quilt the second one too! She paper pieced this beauty and this has inspired me to take a paper piecing class so I can learn this skill. I have a lot of goals for the New Year and this is one of them...to take more quilting classed to improve my quilting skills. Another one is to run a half marathon this year.

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.

                                                                                

So, besides the quilting, I have been working on another project. This project is a special one! My Grandpa pasted away on the 4th of December and I took as many shirts and pants as I could so that I could make some memory quilts for some people in the family. This is what I cut so far and I am trying to use as much of my Grandpas clothes as possible. The only part that won't be his clothing is the backs of each quilt. I modeled each quilt out of one I quilted for a customer.

Below you'll see the "sashing" I'm using for each quilt....all cut from Grandpa's jeans.

This is only 2/3 of the pile I have cut! These are all from his shirts.....and it's going to be awesome!!

These are from his painters pants and I will add some from a white shirt and a red checkered shirt as well.

This is my inspiration for the quilts I am making....cool huh?

I'm super excited for these quilts to be made....I'm almost ready to assemble them....only a few more 2 1/2 inch squares. So, see the blue squares in this quilt? That will be my small white and red checked ones, the white sashing will be the jeans and the shirts are the centers. I think it's going to be awesome! Stay tuned for the updates on these.....

Lattice and some Roses.....

Here I am blogging about a quilt that I just finished today and sent it off to it's owner. Greta made this beautiful quilt! It's a lattice pattern and she had me quilt roses to make it look like it is the Roses are climbing it. Can I just tell you that this quilt turned out so beautiful! It's stunning!

Another beautiful quilt to admire from pictures and to inspire me to make one too!

The colors on this quilt were soft yellow for the background and mostly yellows, greens, browns and light colors. I used a pale yellow thread to quilt it and her back was a really pretty floral with green and yellow. I have to add that her piecing skills are outstanding!

Tis the Season to be Quilting!

Tis the season to be busy! I have been quilting like a mad woman this week to get quilts done before Christmas so I can send them back to their owners! I have to show off a couple quilts that I just finished for Molly. You should check out her blog/website...she has some serious skills!

This quilt that I quilted for her...she wanted pumpkins and I had a meandering pumpkin stencil and it was very fun doing this one. I followed the pattern from the stencil and quilting chalk.

Here is a close up of the pattern on her quilt....aren't these pumpkins SO cute?

This quilt is so fabulous! The Shoo-Fly is really cool! In fact, I am going to make one of these for our bed! It's fast and easy but I just love the look of the huge feel of it. I think I will make my squares 18 inches instead of 12...that would make an impact don't you think? 

The pattern that Molly picked was the wave....and I think it's perfect for this quilt too!

I Love Memory Quilts

It has been kind of crazy and busy around our house this past week. I had a quilt brought to me that was made by a customer for her mother in law. This quilt was made from the shirts of her deceased father in law. I think this is an awesome way to remember someone special that has passed on. I think this pattern is really stunning and with all the different fabrics. I was honored to quilt this for her and she choose a wave pattern because he lived by the ocean and always swam. Love this pattern....check it out.

Next up was a quilt I made, with the help of my fabulous bee sisters! Wonky stars!! I added a green border around it and quilted it with some simple large flowers. I didn't want to do anything too distracting from the stars! I love the white and it makes it so simple and clean. This quilt, originally, was supposed to be a gift for someone, but I really want to keep it for myself.

 

 Here is a sneak peek of the quilting up close. I haven't bound it yet because I am not sure which fabric I want for the binding. I may have to go shopping for some......for the back, I used a vintage sheet I bought at Savers. I know that sheets aren't really the norm for quilts, but it just seemed to fit!

Quilts and Dresdans!

This quilt is a scrappy log cabin style quilt that I made in one of my Bees last year. This lovely has been a UFO for almost 1 year and I finished quilting it this weekend. I did freestyle leaves and the back is a vintage sheet. I thought the sheet would be an added bonus because it is so soft and the color is perfect. I will show it to you once i have it bound.

Here is a closer look of the quilt. Isn't is just lovely scrappiness?

I love all these fabrics together. I would never put them together but it turned out rather pleasing to the eye actually. It is just fun.

Over at the Old Red Barn Co. we're doing a Dresdan quilt along. I'm doing all my dresdans with all my scraps. I have this large stack cut and I still have a lot of scraps. I think I might make an entire quilt with the scraps. I think a large sized quilt will make a fabulous gift.....oh if I only had the time to finish it.

This fabulous Moda fabric has been hiding in my fabric stash since last year and I'm going to use it to make a dresdan wall hanging.The snowflake fabric will be the back ground and the fabric on the left will be the actual dresdans. I might like to add some Christmas saying or maybe something to add to the festive-ness of the hanging.

I'm excited to start this process....just wish I wasn't doing school too, I might have more time.
